What to Expect

If this is your first time with us, welcome.

You don’t need prior sauna experience to be here — just curiosity and a willingness to slow down.

Woodsmoke Sauna is an intentional, guided experience rooted in heat, cold, rest, and presence. It’s designed to feel spacious, supportive, and unhurried from the moment you arrive.

The Rhythm of Experience

Sauna sessions are booked in 75-minute blocks.

This allows time to arrive calmly, move through multiple rounds of heat, cold, and rest, and leave without feeling rushed. There is a rhythm to the experience — but not a stopwatch.

Each session unfolds in rounds:

  • warming in the sauna

  • stepping out to rest or cool

  • returning again when ready

We’ll offer gentle timing cues to help orient you, especially if you’re new. Once you’ve found your footing, the experience is guided primarily by your body — staying longer when it feels right, stepping out when it doesn’t.

There’s no correct number of rounds. No finish line.

Just movement through warmth, contrast, and ease.

Be Our Guest

When you arrive, you’ll check in with the sauna host.

Your host is there to welcome you, answer questions, and offer guidance — especially for first-timers. They’ll be on the property throughout your session, sometimes present and sometimes giving the group space, but always available if you need support.

If you arrive a little late, that’s okay.

Please enter quietly, check in, and ease into the experience with awareness for others who may already be settled.

Sauna Interior Scene

Sauna here is both personal and communal.

Each guest moves at their own pace while remaining aware of others. Some quiet conversation may happen early on, then often fades naturally as heat builds and attention turns inward. Silence is never enforced — it emerges on its own.

Guests are encouraged to:

  • move mindfully

  • sit on a towel

  • ask before creating steam

  • use scent thoughtfully and sparingly

Most importantly, listen to your body. If something doesn’t feel right, stepping out is always the right choice.

This shared awareness is what allows the space to feel calm, respectful, and held.

Shared Space,
Gently Held

Guests are welcome to arrive already dressed in their sauna attire, removing outer layers once inside. Others prefer to change on site. Both are completely fine.

We’ve incorporating a curtained changing area into the transitional space. It offers modesty, though privacy is limited, and we ask that guests change thoughtfully with awareness of the shared environment.

Sauna attire should feel comfortable, simple, and personal — there’s no expectation of specific styles or swimwear. What matters most is ease and respect for the space and for one another.

Because sauna is a shared, enclosed environment, cleanliness matters. We strongly encourage guests to rinse or shower before arriving, and to avoid lotions, oils, perfumes, colognes, or strongly scented products on the day of their visit. Heat amplifies scent, and what feels subtle elsewhere can become overwhelming in the sauna, making it difficult for others to breathe and rest.

We don’t currently have shower facilities on site, so a little planning ahead helps ensure the experience remains comfortable and welcoming for everyone.

Changing, Comfort & Care

What to Bring

  • A water bottle (we have fresh water available for refilling)

  • A towel to sit on in the sauna

  • Sauna-appropriate clothing or a bathing suit - and a sauna hat if you have one!

  • Footwear suited to the weather - the driveway can be muddy or snowy

We have space for coats, boots, and personal items, but storage is intentionally minimal. You’re encouraged to leave anything you don’t need for sauna safely in your car.

Phones are best left behind as well. Heat and steam aren’t kind to electronics  - being fully present helps you get the most out of sauna. We won’t enforce this, but most guests find the experience deepens when devices stay out of reach.

Stacked Firewood

The Setting

Woodsmoke Sauna sits on quiet land, surrounded by trees, field, and open sky. This is our family home, and we are welcoming you in to share in this deeply personal experience.

The approach itself is part of the experience. Many guests find that by the time they arrive, something has already shifted — the pace has softened, attention has dropped out of the day and into the body.

Here, calm begins before the door.

A Final Word

You’re not expected to know what you’re doing, to push yourself, or to get it “right.”

Sauna meets each person differently. The ritual reveals itself with time. We’ll guide where helpful, and step back when space is what’s needed.

We’re glad you’re here — and we look forward to welcoming you into the warmth.
